It's Monday! What Are You Reading? 12/26/11

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA!
It's Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journeys. It is a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It's also a great chance to see what others are reading right now…who knows, you might discover that next “must read” book!
After doing the meme for a couple of weeks, we realized this would be a fun meme to start up with a kidlit focus - anyone reading and reviewing books in children's literature - it can be picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, you name it in the world of kidlit and it's in! We have loved being a part of this meme and we hope you do too!  We encourage everyone participating to go and visit the other kidlit book bloggers that link up and to comment on as many posts as you can. We love talking books and believe in sharing and discussing what we're reading. We hope you join us!

Last Week's Book Adventures:
Jen Says: Yay for reading! I actually have gotten in a lot of reading so far this break. It's exciting. I finished The Downside of Being Up by Alan Sitomer. It is so funny! I loved it. I read The Trouble With May Amelia by the talented Jenni Holm. May Amelia is such a great character. The whole book is full of antics but family unity at the same time. I started to reread Dash and Lily's Book of Dare by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan. The writing is just so remarkable. I then realized I really wanted to read Let It Snow and had to switch to that. It's three stories by Maureen Johnson, John Green and Lauren Myracle. They're different stories but then they all merge. Love. And I am super closed to finishing Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins that Kellee sent me. I love love stories and this one is a winner.

Over the weekend, we picked up Marcel the Shell by Jenny Slate and Dean Fleischer-Camp. I don't know how I ever missed the video on YouTube but I'm glad I've seen it now. I read the book
with Peanut and he thought it was funny. It's very clever.

We are gearing up for John Green Week with YA Bibliophile from January 3rd - 10th so I need to get me some John Green books! I'm thinking Paper Towns and possibly some short stories. Do you have a John Green favorite???

Kellee Says: So this week started off phenomenally for reading since I am on break!  I read 2 graphic novels, 7 novels, 1 audio book and 8 picture books in 5 days during my break:
Ruby Red, Life Undecided and Prom that I mentioned last week
Sticky Burr #1 and #2 by John Lechner (WE NEED A #3!!! Jen's review)
4 Elephant and Piggie books and Leonardo, the Terrible Monster by Mo Willems
(Mo Willems has QUICKLY become my favorite picture book author.  The man can do no wrong!)
Jonathan and the Big Blue Boat by Philip C. Stead
Little Chicken's Big Day by Jerry Davis
Blackout by John Rocco
(A heart-warming book about finding time to spend with your family. Beautiful artwork as well.)
Amplified by Tara Kelly
But I Love Him by Amanda Grace
Rattled by Lisa Harrington
Leap by Jodi Lundgren
But then a fabulous wrench was thrown in to the works- my parent surprised me by flying my sister in for Christmas and all of a sudden reading was not a priority any more.  I haven't seen my sister since May and this is the first time in many years that my whole family is together for Christmas.  So, since my sister has been here (3 days), I have finished 1 novel.
Badd by Tim Tharp
Spending time with my family has officially taken over my reading time, but when I return home tomorrow night, reading will resume!

Upcoming Book Adventures:
Jen Says: This week I need to get back to The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater on audio. I also really want to get back to The Eye of the Storm by Kate Messner that I started forever ago, too. I have an ARC of Stealing Magic by Marianne Malone and Neversink by Barry Wolverton that I also have on deck. And then I have to get to my stacks of pictures books! I'm envisioning a library morning where I can focus...a girl can dream. Hopefully it'll happen!

Kellee Says: I am currently reading You Against Me by Jenny Downham.  This last week of break I plan on reading a bunch including How to Save a Life by Sara Zarr and Now Playing by Ron Koertge.  I'll also probably throw in some graphic novels I have from Netgalley as well as a manuscript a friend of mine wrote.  It'll be a reading filled week!
