It's Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA 12/05/11

Welcome to the fun and exciting first ever:
It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA!
It's Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journeys. It is a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It's also a great chance to see what others are reading right now…who knows, you might discover that next “must read” book!
After doing the meme for a couple of weeks, we realized this would be a fun meme to start up with a kidlit focus - anyone reading and reviewing books in children's literature - it can be picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, you name it in the world of kidlit and it's in! We have loved being a part of this meme and we hope you do too!  We encourage everyone participating to go and visit the other kidlit book bloggers that link up and to comment on as many posts as you can. We love talking books and believe in sharing and discussing what we're reading. We hope you join us!

Last Week's Book Adventures:
Jen Says: I finished The Kneebone Boy by Ellen Potter! It was great! I was completely surprised by the ending, doesn't that just make books great? The writing was brilliant. I also finished the audio of Zombies Vs. Unicorns edited by Holly Black and Justene Larbalestier. I have to say my favorite was "Princess Prettypants" by Meg Cabot. She's just great. Others really made me think though and realize I wish there were stories like those when I was in high school. I also started Pie by Sarah Weeks on audio.

Kellee Says: Last week I finished my first full cast audio book and I truly enjoyed it.  I don't think I knew what I was missing.  In a full cast audio, each character has their own voice and I love how it truly made the book come to life.  It also made it helpful that the audio book was of a great stand alone book, Airborn by Kenneth Oppel.  I'll definitely be continuing the series and will be doing so in audio.  If you are looking to try audio or to try a full cast audio, it is a great one to try.  I also plan on doing a mini-review of Airborn at a later day, so check back for it.  This week I also read three other books: Hurricane Dancers by Margarita Engle (a book I've seen on Mock Newbery lists), Neversink by Barry Wolverton (thank you Walden Press!), and Long Story Short by Siobhan Parkinson (written by the Children's Literature Laureate of Ireland). I plan on reviewing these 3 books as well, so check back for them.  However, I'm still struggling this year with how to fit in reading with everything that is going on.  Is anyone else having that problem this year?

Upcoming Book Adventures:
Jen Says: I'll be finishing up Pie by Sarah Weeks on audio and then most likely listening to The Flint Heart by Katherine and John Paterson. I'm collaborating with Colby Sharp from sharpread and reading Hound Dog True by Linda Urban with him. I'm hoping he'll get his act together we'll start reading this week. Picture-book-wise I'll be reading Dogs Don't Do Ballet by Anna Kemp as we get ready to talk about The Nutcracker Ballet. I'm also doing a read aloud of Roald Dahl's Matilda with one of my students and I am so excited!

Kellee Says: I have a list of at least 9 books I still plan on reading before the end of December, so I will be jumping head first into that pile. We'll see how far I get into it, but I hope to read 3 of them.  The first one on the pile is Just your Average Princess by Kristina Springer. We'll see how it goes!

This Week's Reviews:
I am Number Four (Lorien Legacies, #1)  The Power of Six (Lorien Legacies, #2)  Anya's Ghost
