It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA!
It's Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journeys. It is a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It's also a great chance to see what others are reading right now…who knows, you might discover that next “must read” book!
After doing the meme for a couple of weeks, we realized this would be a fun meme to start up with a kidlit focus - anyone reading and reviewing books in children's literature - it can be picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, you name it in the world of kidlit and it's in! We have loved being a part of this meme and we hope you do too!  We encourage everyone participating to go and visit the other kidlit book bloggers that link up and to comment on as many posts as you can. We love talking books and believe in sharing and discussing what we're reading. We hope you join us!

Last Week's Book Adventures:
Jen Says: It was so much fun to review Prudence Gets a Pet. My sister just told me today that she's thinking about getting a dog and all I could think of was Prudence! Over the weekend we read A Dog is a Dog by Stephen Shaskan and My Name is Elizabeth by Annika Dunklee. They were both super cute. Last week I finished Pie by Sarah Weeks on audio. I thought it was great...except for the epilogue, could have done without that bit. I also listened to The Flint Heart by Katherine and John Paterson. I had the most fun reading and discussing Hound Dog True by Linda Urban with our friend, Colby. You can read about it so far at his blog so far here and here

Kellee Says: I had a pretty successful week! I was able to make a dent in my pile of books I want to finish by next Monday.  I finished up Just Your Average Princess last Sunday (after I wrote the blog post) and went on to finish Paradise by Jill S. Alexander and My Brother's Shadow by Monika Shroder.  Just Your Average Princess is such a fun read and will have a review posted here on the blog.  Paradise was okay, but I had trouble with getting into it.  I did end up enjoying it until the end where I was sent into shock.  Finally, My Brother's Shadow was such an interesting story from World War I from a young German boy's point of view.  I will write up a post for it as well.  Lastly, I finished Pop by Gordon Korman on audio book and liked it much more than I thought I was going to.  It deals with Alzheimer disease which I don't find often in YA novels. I hope to write a review for it and last week's audio book, Airborn, but I have to get the physical books so I can get snatches of text and what not.

Reviewed Last Week:
I am Number Four (Lorien Legacies, #1)  The Power of Six (Lorien Legacies, #2)  Anya's Ghost

Upcoming Book Adventures:
Jen Says: I am so excited for Girl Meets Boy to be published in January. If you enjoy YA, I think this book is a must. There are so many different stories in here that really make you think. You'll want to read my review to learn more! Please comment if you have read and reviewed this so we can chat! I started listening to The Unwanteds by Lisa McMann in my car before the weekend so I'm excited to get back to that. I also have The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater on audio awaiting me when I am done. With all the holiday busy-ness, I have had a hard time finding time to read physical books. I'm still working on Kate Messner's Eye of the Storm and the Anne Frank graphic novel I have from NCTE. Oh, and I'm also reading The Friendship Doll by Kirby Larson.

Kellee Says: So, I have 5 books left in the pile that I want to finish by next Monday. It is a MUST so I better get reading.  I am going to start with Enclave by Ann Aguirre which says right on the front "For fans of The Hunger Games" so I hope it doesn't disappoint.  Let's see if I can get my 5 read by next Monday- wish me luck!!!
