It's Monday! What Are You Reading? 3/5/12

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA!
It's Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journeys. It is a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It's also a great chance to see what others are reading right now…who knows, you might discover that next “must read” book!
After doing the meme for a couple of weeks, we realized this would be a fun meme to start up with a kidlit focus - anyone reading and reviewing books in children's literature - it can be picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, you name it in the world of kidlit and it's in! We have loved being a part of this meme and we hope you do too!  We encourage everyone participating to go and visit the other kidlit book bloggers that link up and to comment on as many posts as you can. We love talking books and believe in sharing and discussing what we're reading. We hope you join us!

Last Week's Book Adventures:
Jen Says: I'm still reading Hero's Guide to Saving Your Kingdom by Christopher Healy! It has nothing to do with the book. The book is fun, but it's a long book (over 400 pages) and I like to read shorter books as I read a long book so I feel like I am finishing books. Which doesn't really make sense, I should just stick with the long one - but I can't! Eventually I'll get to a point where I'll finish it over another. (I'm weird...I guess!)

I did finish The Boy Book AND Treasure Map of Boys by E. Lockhart (both on audio) last week. I'm sorry but The Boyfriend List and The Boy Book made me want to read the third in the series. While things are on the upswing though, I'm hesitant to read the 4th in the series...because, you know I love happy endings. (Weird again, maybe?) Reading books in a series can be fun. I listened to Torment by Lauren Kate which is the 2nd in the Fallen series. I really love this series.

The book I absolutely loved and adored this week was Wonder by RJ Palacio. Amazing. It's a great story. Truly inspirational.

I did read a nice stack of picture books even but my favorite laugh-out-loud book was: Beep and Bah by James Burks. It's hysterical. It's a graphic novel picture book and seems better as a read alone versus a read aloud, but it's awesome!

Kellee Says: I read only 3 books this week, but all were novels and all were very good. First, Wonder. What can you say about this book. Right down the same aisle as Out of my Mind- it is a book that I feel is a must read for all middle schoolers.  The empathy that is gained through the reading is incredible. I also finished the audio of Fire by Kristin Cashore and it was just as good as Graceling! Wow- that Kristin Cashore can write! The third book I finished was one I had not heard of and it was a surprise- Bluefish by Pat Schmatz. It is a book that will make any teacher proud and shows how teaching (and friendship) can change a life.

Upcoming Book Adventures:
Jen Says: You already know I'll keep reading Hero's Guide to Saving Your Kingdom...and on audio I am planning to listen to Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys because I have heard so much about it. It's a long book so I'm not sure I'll get to another audio this week but I'm hoping I will. If I do I think I'm going to listen to Borrower by Rebecca Makkai. Other real books I would like to read this week are Glory Be by August Scattergood and The Humming Room by Ellen Potter.

For World Read Aloud Day, I'll be reading Extra Yarn by Mac Barnett with pictures by my beloved Jon Klassen. I can't wait to share this book!!!!!

Kellee Says: As I am typing this, The One and Only Ivan is sitting right next to me. I am on page 14, but there is a very good chance that when this posts I may be done. I am an advocate of apes and I am fascinated with them, so Ivan is a book after my own heart. I also am going to start listening to Bloody Jack. There is also a pile of graphic novels and picture books waiting for me that I hope I can touch this week. And as always, there are novels all over the place that I hope I will enjoy and will share with you.
