It's Monday! What Are You Reading? 10/22/12

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA!
It's Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journeys. It is a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It's also a great chance to see what others are reading right now…who knows, you might discover that next “must read” book!
After doing the meme for a couple of weeks, we realized this would be a fun meme to start up with a kidlit focus - anyone reading and reviewing books in children's literature - it can be picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, you name it in the world of kidlit and it's in! We have loved being a part of this meme and we hope you do too!  We encourage everyone participating to go and visit the other kidlit book bloggers that link up and to comment on as many posts as you can. We love talking books and believe in sharing and discussing what we're reading. We hope you join us!

Last Week's Book Adventures:
Jen Says: This week I finished Every Day by David Levithan. When I saw him in September, I was telling him how I am such a hopeless romantic and that I love happy endings...and then I left and wondered how I would like Every Day and it's ending...and I did! I reviewed it over the weekend. It's a beautiful book. I also read Luz Makes a Splash. I am still loving graphic novels! I finished This Is Not a Drill and so loved the characters. That review is coming soon and I'm excited to share this book. Hattie Ever After came in the mail and I started it! Loooooooving it! I'm about halfway through Amy and Roger's Epic Detour and am excited to continue listening this week.
On Friday, I found myself rereading all of Jon Klassen's picture books that have been out in the last year and a half. I love them all! I can't wait to share my experience meeting and interviewing him. Check back on Sunday! We also visited the Scholastic Book Fair at Peanut's school and grabbed Dog in Charge which is an awesome picture book that we loved last week!

Kellee Says: Another pretty successful week. I am beginning to find more confidence in my reading once again and also it is becoming part of my routine. This week I finished three novels and all were pretty good. First I listened to As Simple as it Seems by Sarah Weeks which is a quiet, yet strong, book along the lines of May Amelia or Ida B. I also read The Girl Who Remembered Horses by Linda Benson. TGWRH is a post-apocalyptic story that is different than any I've read before. I'll be reviewing this one for you. Finally, I started reading some of Orca's Seven series. This series were all released at the same time and each book is focused around one of seven grandsons of David McLean. When Mr. McLean passed away, he left requests for each grandson to complete a final wish. The one I have finished is Close to the Heel which was much more intense than I had presumed. It definitely can stand alone and will find a wide range of readers as it is a middle and teen book.

Upcoming Book Adventures:
Jen Says: I am going to finish listening to Amy and Roger's Epic Detour on audio. After I finish, I think I'll be putting Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes into my CD player. I started Hattie Ever After and am super excited to see how Hattie's story continues. Hattie and several characters from Hattie Big Sky are back but she's off pursuing a new adventure. My goal for the week is also to finish up the second part of Visible Learning for Teachers. I'm having flashbacks to high school and required reading with this one...but I will persevere.

Kellee Says: I am currently listening to Ghetto Cowboy by G. Neri and I am loving every second of it. Did you know that there is actually a section of North Philadelphia where horses are raised?!  So neat to learn something new about our country. I am also reading another of the Seven series- Jump Cut which is just getting good. Finally, I have also started the 3rd book in Mark Crilley's Brody's Ghost series, but I haven't gotten too far into it. I am so excited to see what happens as book 2 left quite a few things unanswered.
