It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA!
It's Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journeys. It is a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It's also a great chance to see what others are reading right now…who knows, you might discover that next “must read” book!
After doing the meme for a couple of weeks, we realized this would be a fun meme to start up with a kidlit focus - anyone reading and reviewing books in children's literature - it can be picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, you name it in the world of kidlit and it's in! We have loved being a part of this meme and we hope you do too! We encourage everyone participating to go and visit the other kidlit book bloggers that link up and to comment on as many posts as you can. We love talking books and believe in sharing and discussing what we're reading. We hope you join us!
Last Week's Book Adventures:
Jen Says: I finished more books! Yay! I'm feeling a lot better about this week compared to the last few. I've decided I can't force myself to finish books any more if I'm not enjoying them. It's not worth the time I procrastinate not reading them because I just don't want it. I think I'm better off abandoning if it's just not what I'm in the mood for. (Although I'm so making it sound easier than it is...I am not good at abandoning books!) I have been listening to The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater and it's absolutely amazing! I'm so in love with this book. If I didn't have a sick kiddo on my hands this weekend, I probably would have finished listening to it. I did have a sick kiddo but it actually let me get books finished! I reread my beloved Dash and Lily's Book of Dares (giveaway HERE) and then I read Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List which is also by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan. I've the three books they have collaborated on and while are are all good, Dash and Lily has to be my favorite still. I also ready Chopsticks by Jessica Anthony and My Friend Dahmer by Derf Backderf. I started a bunch of other books, too...because I totally have reader's ADD..all the books are just so shiny and enticing! I want to read them all!
Kellee Says: A pretty good week! Finished Cadillac Chronicles by Brett Hartman, a great book (do not judge it by its cover!) and I cannot wait to share it with you in the upcoming weeks, and Rape Girl by Alina Klein, a look at the psychological effects following reporting a rape. I also was able to finish the Chasing Vermeer audiobook and I was so fascinated by the book! Now that I am done, I cannot wait to go back and look at the diagrams and illustrations in the book that I have been told about.
Upcoming Book Adventures:
Jen Says: The books I started over the weekend are: Sean Griswold's Head by Lindsey Leavitt, Mindset by Carol Dweck, The Great Unexpected by Sharon Creech, and I almost cracked open Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell. I'm still listening to The Raven Boys and will work on all of these...and hopefully get to more. I'm so glad to be back to being excited about reading books. It totally makes a difference to be reading books I'm really really excited and motivated to read!
Kellee Says: I haven't started a new book yet (have been working on reviews and school work instead) though I have started listening to a new audiobook: Gossamer by Lois Lowry. So far I am completely enthralled by the concept of the book. Cannot wait to get through the special little book. Keeping with Lowry, I am also hoping to get to The Giver this week. I really want to reread it before reading Son. Looking forward to my driving this week! As for books, we'll see what I get to.
