It's Monday! What Are You Reading? 1/21/13

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA!
It's Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journeys. It is a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It's also a great chance to see what others are reading right now…who knows, you might discover that next “must read” book!
After doing the meme for a couple of weeks, we realized this would be a fun meme to start up with a kidlit focus - anyone reading and reviewing books in children's literature - it can be picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, you name it in the world of kidlit and it's in! We have loved being a part of this meme and we hope you do too!  We encourage everyone participating to go and visit the other kidlit book bloggers that link up and to comment on as many posts as you can. We love talking books and believe in sharing and discussing what we're reading. We hope you join us!

Last Week's Book Adventures:
Jen Says: It's hard to express how much I love my Archie: The Married Life graphic novel/comic book book! It's so good. It has a bit of science fiction to it that makes it even more interesting. I love it. I'm so excited to be reading Archie comics again, I loved them as a kid when I begged my mom to buy them for me at the grocery store every week. In other news, this week I finished listening to C.S. Lewis' The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe and then started Bossypants by Tina Fey. I forgot I had ordered it from the library but it was a good non-fiction funny read to keep me busy this week. I actually learned a bit about improvisation that was really interesting. I'm almost done with Bossypants on audio. I've been reading Hide and Seek and Navigating Early but my time has been limited to here and there so I wasn't able to finish either. I also tried listening to A Visit From the Goon Squad on audio but it wasn't for me...I totally thought it was a YA book but it ended up being more of an adult book from what I could tell and just didn't capture my interest. I did get some other books read as you can see below:
Kellee Says: Though I didn't get as much read during my long weekend as I anticipated, it still ended up being a pretty great reading week. I finished 3 novels- Tilly's Moonlight Garden by Julia Green, It Seemed Funny at the Time by David Lubar, and the 4th Spiderwick Chronicles book. I'm looking forward to sharing Tilly and Seemed Funny... with you and I should finish the Spiderwick series this week.
As for the rest of my reading, I read a bunch of great graphic novels:
Hilda and the Midnight Giant by Luke Pearson
Bird and Squirrel On the Run by James Burks
Extreme Babymouse by Jennifer and Matthew Holm
Squish: Captain Disaster by Jennifer and Matthew Holm
     And wonderful picture books:
Looking at Lincoln by Maira Kalman
Island: A Story of the Galapagos by Jason Chin
Brothers at Bat by Audrey Vernick
I Love my Toy by Mo Willems
Each Kindness by Jacqueline Woodson
The Rooster and the Fox by Helen Ward
Lily Brown's Paintings by Angela Johnson

Upcoming Book Adventures:
Jen Says: I plan to finish up the audio of Bossypants but I'm headed to the library today so I don't have any audiobooks lined up just yet. I'll keep reading Navigating Early and Hide and Seek and then I have Outliers and Join the Club as adult books to read. I'll be at a conference in February and I looked up the keynote speakers so I can read some of there books, one look awesome. It's called The Willpower Instinct and I'm hoping to read that.

Kellee Says: Right now I am reading The Other Slipper by Kenechi Udogu which is a story of Cinderella's other slipper and I am listening to the final Spiderwick Chronicles book. After that I have a pile of books to chose from and hope to find a winner in it. We'll see how it goes!
