Jen's WRAD Blogging Challenge Post #4

It's a bittersweet day for the WRAD Blogging Challenge...it's the last day *tear* but that also means World Read Aloud Day is here! If you haven't officially signed up, visit litworld.org now. You can also visit for WRAD ideas. Wednesday is right around the corner but there is still time to plan to celebrate read aloud!

Week 4: March 3 – March 6

Read it Forward!

Last year, I read Extra Yarn by Mac Barnett. I shared it with a 4th grade class and a 6th grade class and then booktalked Wonder by RJ Palacio. It was excellent.

This year I've decided to read Dragons Love Tacos by Adam Rubin for World Read Aloud Day. We had a lot of fun at home reading Dragons Love Tacos in January so I thought I would take it into a few classes in my district to read aloud. Because we have state testing this week, I will be reading to younger students who aren't taking any of those tests.

We're also celebrating at home by having a WRAD taco party! This is number 2 on my Bookish Un-Boring List of 2013 so I thought it was perfect for WRAD. Last week, Peanut and I planned out what we would need for our party. We made a list of all the food we need to buy - he's not a fan of tacos but loves quesadillas so we added that to the menu! We found a coloring sheet for our guests and are going to also play limbo to some mariachi music. I had a wild idea for streamer decorations...we'll see if it works! We're most excited to share the silly book Dragons Love Tacos with our friends. We also have Waking Dragons by Jane Yolen and Saint George and the Dragon by Margaret Hodges that we hope to read, too!

What are your plans for WRAD day? Have the evolved since we first started this challenge? I had fun including Peanut in our WRAD planning!

The blogging challenge actually asks us to share a video of reading aloud this week (which I'll add once I make mine) but I wanted to share that it may not be wise to read an entire book in a video to share online. Please be conscious of copyright infringement laws if you decide to make a video.
