It's already June! The year is halfway over! This is complete and utter craziness to me. Time is especially weird as a teacher because we function on a school year calendar which is totally different from a regular yearly calendar. While the school year is ending, the regular year is halfway through. However you look at it, it's still June!
In January, I shared my 2013 Bookish Un-Boring List. I love this list so much more than resolutions. I didn't make resolutions this year but I did give myself a bunch of fun bookish challenges to work on and that's what my Un-Boring List is all about. Summer is going to be a great time to catch up on a lot of my Un-Boring activities so I thought I would take time to review what I've done so far and what I plan to do this summer!
Jen's 2013 Bookish Un-Boring List:
1. Host a book and a bookmark swap with Kellee
here at Teach Mentor Texts
2. Have a taco party to celebrate
Dragons Love Tacos by Adam Rubin
DONE! 3/3/2013
Our World Read Aloud Day celebration was great!
3. Reread Blue Balliett's Chasing Vermeer series
and go on a Robie House mystery tour
I think I'm going to save this for the fall, but maybe sooner!
4. Crochet an Extra Yarn-like case for my Nook
I have the yarn! I just need to borrow a crochet hook from my mom.
5. Release books into the wild
through Book Crossing to celebrate
Donalyn Miller's new book Reading in the Wild
out in October of 2013
I'm already positive this book is going to be
just as brilliant as The Book Whisperer!
One reason I'm ready for fall!
6. Visit new (to me) Indie book stores
1 new-to-me Indie book store visited!
In February, I was at a conference in San Jose, California so I ran
into Recycle Books. I had a lot of fun wandering and checking
out all their used books. They even had cats! A very fun place!
I'm excited to visit some other indie book stores this summer!
7. Create paper mache book art
like they have at Reading Reptile book store
I forgot about this! How awesome would paper mache Elephant and Piggie be?
Will have to brainstorm with the kiddos this week! Any suggestions?
8. Have a graphic novel read-a-thon
Tentatively planning this for July!
More information coming soon!
9. Have a monster celebration with Peanut
*thinking of reading monster-themed books,
seeing Monsters University (the sequel to Monsters Inc 2)
and writing our own monster stories*
We'll be talking non-stop monsters at our house the week leading
up to Friday, June 21st when Monsters University is released!
10. Write another book this summer
(the first draft at least...)
(three cheers for Teachers Write!)
Teachers Write is baaaaa-aaaaack!
Gae Polisner will be bringing back Feedback Friday at her blog on 6/21.
I'll share my Teachers Write kickoff post here on Sunday, 6/23. Teachers Write officially starts over on Kate Messner's blog on Monday, 6/24! I've already
been writing more since school got out and I can't want to share our
writing ups and downs again this summer. You can also join
the Teachers Write Facebook group for daily updates!
Do you have bookish Un-Boring type fun planned for the summer? I know lots of friends are traveling to ALA in Chicago or to nErDcamp in Battle Creek. How do you plan to beat the heat and get your read on? Please share!
