This week month I'm celebrating Picture Book Month!

What are you celebrating this week?
Last week during the Titletalk chat, somehow Alyson Beecher from Kid Lit Frenzy and I started talking about doing a bookaday celebration for Picture Book Month and blogging about our reading. I feel way behind on all my reading but on picture books especially so this is perfect. I also feel behind on blogging all the time so I'm switching it up for November to celebrate my picture book bookaday challenge.
Way back in 2011, I celebrated Picture Book Month and wrote a post called Go, Picture Book, It's Your Special Month! where I shared ideas for using one of my all-time favorite mentor texts, Velma Gratch and the Way Cool Butterfly by Alan Madison. I'm thinking my posts this month will be similar to that but we'll see how things go! I already talked to Peanut and Little Bean about this challenge and they are totally on board. Peanut is a little more excited. Yesterday he brought home a story he illustrated about a monster who goes to a hotel to swim at a pool but he meets a girl who talks loud and it bothers him. It was super cute. We sent off some interview questions earlier in the week so he must have had that on his mind because he also brought me a folded piece of paper where I could record the questions I wanted to ask of the author. Totally adorable, right?
I got really good at taking a book pic every night but we've gotten out of the habit of doing that...until now. I'm planning to start snapping bookpics and sharing them with my daily posts.
Since we're kicking off Picture Book Month, what are some of your favorite picture books? Do you use them as mentor texts?
