It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA!
It's Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. It is a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It's also a great chance to see what others are reading right now...you just might discover your next “must-read” book!
Kellee Moye, of Unleashing Readers, and I decided to give It's Monday! What Are You Reading? a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children's literature - picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, anything in the world of kidlit - join us! We love this meme and think you will, too. We encourage everyone who participates to visit at least three of the other kidlit book bloggers that link up and leave comments for them.
Last Week's Book Adventures:
I finished listening to With The Fire On High by Elizabeth Acevedo and it is so good!!! One of my students is also reading it so we've been talking about it all week. After I finished it, I started listening to On The Come Up by Angie Thomas. I read more of Juliet Takes a Breath and started the graphic novel Making Friends by Kristen Gudsnuk.
And I can't forget that I also read a No More Independent Reading Without Support by Debbie Miller and Barbara Moss. It's part of Heinemann's Not This, But That series. I meant to order No More "Look Up The List" Vocabulary Instruction a few weeks ago and got the independent reading one instead. I decided to keep it and buy the vocabulary one too. Now I've read them both and really find them helpful. They are super short texts. They're hyper focused on the facts and the research and then ideas for what to do instead. Sometimes I wish they gave a little more explanation of what to do and/or how exactly to do it but for the most part, I appreciate that they get to the point and are very explicit about what not to do, what to do, and why.
Upcoming Book Adventures:
I'll be listening to On The Come Up this week and reading more of Juliet Takes a Breath and Making Friends. I also grabbed a Poe graphic novel that I want to take a look at and a friend recommended a professional text that he's been reminding me I absolutely need to read so I'm going to try and get to that as well.
